Edward gave his occupation as Miner when he enlisted 1 May 1916 at Sports Ground Sydney, and his next of kin his wife Johanna Huggett of 127 Underwood Street, Paddington, Sydney.

Edward served in the 13th Battalion A.I.F. He departed Sydney on the 'Ceramic' 7 October 1916 and arrived France via England January 1917.

He was wounded in action (exhaustion) Belgium 12 June 1917.

Edward had two brothers who served. George Alexander Huggett (Private 2090) was Killed in Action at Passchendaele and James F Huggett (7743) who was wounded and returned to Australia.
